Shame Jeff's name doesn't get to be in it...but he tells me he's happy with it. I think I'll make a logo at some point...
Oh, and I did a presentation on Tuesday. That was pretty big actually, and that's what this post is really about. The presentation was all about the film and series ideas I've come up with over summer.
Well, it wasn't the best presentation, but I'm happy with it, and I think I've settled on the ideas I'm going for.
Here are the pages of the presentation for your viewing pleasure.
This first page is just some of the stuff I've looked at that inspired or helped me strengthen my ideas.
You'll notice a corner of environmental based films. The top right corner is a trilogy of novels, they gave me the idea for an antagonist character in The Last Gift. The bottom left image is a video game that specifically inspired Hope. You'll get it in a bit.
There's the first film, The Last Gift. Just a brief explanation of the story, and what happens, but you already know about that!
I didn't really have much imagery for this one. I do actually have a sketch of the character Claire, but I'm not too happy with it so I wasn't comfortable putting it in the presentation.
And the final film slide. Odd, Hope was actually the first film idea I cam up with.
From here on out, the slides detail the series ideas I've come up with
The character on this slide is a design I made in my first year of university. I called him Orphan as a pseudonym back then because I thought it sounded cool, but now I'm just going with his real name, Alex. I'll also be re-designing him.
These are just some designs to go with the Wonderland idea. These designs are Alice. I've tried to go for a look that's modern, but still keeps that sort of traditional look that most people are familiar with (mostly thanks to Disney). There are a few bits of inspiration in there.
Here's my second series. I actually really liked this idea mostly for the characters in it, but storylines would be a little difficult for this one I think. I'm not a great comedy writer. If I could collaborate, I'm sure that'd be great, but alas, the series is a solo project! Again, a few sources of inspiration. I've not actually seen much of Daria or Ugly Americans, but I've seen enough to know that: the personality of Daria would be perfect for the leading lady of this series, and the storylines of Ugly Americans are similar to the sort of ideas I've had.
And my final idea! This one doesn't have a name, but it's the only child friendly series I've got. There's a little bit of referencing there, but that's just what I could link this series to, it's not where I got the idea. I came up with this when I was having a bizarre conversation with a Scottish friend, a trip to the shops that got greatly embellished by money grabbing krakens talking pyramid schemes. And that's how the character Business Kraken came to be. Then the radioactive hawk, then the Russian pyromaniac rats. The child was just some way to turn that all in to a story. He's the glue that binds it all.
Terribly sorry about the quality of some of these sketches!
I didn't want to commit to anything before I decided on the ideas I want to go through with!
So, the ideas I've chosen to go through with are... *drum roll*
The Last Gift for my film and Wonderland for my series. They've both had the largest amount of planning so far, the most thought in terms of the storylines and characters, and I feel a bit more of a "connection" with them than the others. I mean, The Last Gift is sort of like my own Ferngully, and that film means a lot to me! And Wonderland...well, it's been with me for a long time. The character Alex is already a redesign of another idea I had in college...but we'll go in to that another time. If at all.
